IMPERIALS LOOKING FOR NEW LEAD SINGER
Since September of '02, Shannon Smith has filled the lead position for The Imperials. Before joining the Imperials.. Smith had served as pastor and worship leader on the local church level. Effective now,.. Shannon is returning to full time church work as a minister of music. SGReporter spoke with the group's tenor, Jeremie Hudson, about Smith's exit.. Hudson told us: "He (Shannon) felt GOD had called him to a different ministry. Everything is cool. He is still a business partner of the group."
Scott Allen,.. former lead singer of the, now dedfunct, Mercy's Mark.. is filling in with the Imperials,.. and Hudson says Allen is being consider as a permanent replacement for Shannon Smith.  Jeremie adds that nothing has yet been decided.. and The Imperials are, at this moment, accepting applications for the vacant position.

EXTRA INFO:
SG record reviewer and commentator, David Bruce Murray makes this observation:

In the entire history of the Imperials, the longest the group has ever gone with no changes at any vocal position is five years. This most recent lineup matched that record.  Sherman Andrus was with the group from 1971 to 1976, while the other three singers (Armond Morales, Terry Blackwood, and Jim Murray) were there before and after. Russ Taff and David Will joined in 1976. Taff left in 1981.

Shannon Smith, Jason Morales, and Jeremie Hudson were already in the group when Ian Owens joined in 2003, so with Smith leaving, that's another five year stretch.

In the last five years of Southern Gospel, there's been very few non-family quartets that haven't experienced at least one change. Triumphant is one.

A five year stretch is impressive.
