SINGING NEWS WRITER HAS CANCER
The Singing News website is reporting that veteran SN writer Bob
Terrell has been diagnosed
with terminal cancer. The magazine's website says Terrell has suffered
from Prostate Cancer for an
extended time. The cancer has apparently progressed, in the past few
weeks.. and
doctors have determined that further treatments would
be unsuccessful. Bob is currently under Hospice care and is living with
his son, Bob Terrell, Jr., near Phoenix, AZ. He is 80 years old.
Terrell is the dean of Southern Gospel Music journalists,
having penned his first such article for publication in the 1940's. He
has been a writer for Singing News since its establishment in 1969. He
has written numerous books, including more than a dozen about Southern
Gospel Music and its personalities such as the Chuck Wagon Gang,
Kingsmen, Buck and Dottie Rambo, Connie Hopper, Nick Bruno and Squire
Parsons. He's also written two books about the Inspirations and three
about J.D. Sumner. Bob wrote the first comprehensive history book of
Southern Gospel Music entitled: "The Music Men-The Story of
Professional Gospel Quartet Singing." Bob also worked for
Reverend Billy Graham for several
years,.. and even authored several books with the evangelist.
