GAITHER SUPPORTS GOSPEL TOURIST ATTRACTION IN THE HOOSIER STATE
An Alexandria, Indiana newspaper (Times Tribute) is reporting that local businessman Neal Johnson and
Mary Starkey, the former director of the Corporation for Economic Development,.. and Gaither Management Inc representative, Gina Briscoe, approached city council members to request their assistance with a private/public endeavor that, they say, could place Alexandria on the map as a major tourist attraction. Johnson told council members: "Nashville, Tennessee would love to have Bill Gaither relocate to their city, but this is his home, and this is where he wants to stay.”
During the February19th council meeting.. the trio said they would like to make Alexandria the home of the American Gospel Music Experience. Tentative plans call for development of land behind Gaither Management and Studio. The tract would be the site of a 750 seat state of the art performance theatre attached to an experiential museum. A hotel and restaurant are included in the tentative plans.
